Among the most important features of a high chair are safety, easy clean, durability, and convenience. While the second thing to check on a baby`s high chair is if it has a wide enough seat to make him/her comfortable, the first thing is to make sure that chair does not have sharp edges or caps that a baby could pull or loosen, and that it can hold the baby securely. Safety is our first priority. If the high chair has a harness or restraining straps to keep him in place, make sure that they do not pull out of the slots to avoid fall hazard.
Plastic baby high chairs are generally easier to clean than wooden baby high chairs. Check that all joints should be easily reachable, especially those that are sure to be touched by the baby. An easy clean high chair has less chance of spreading germs and diseases, or growing molds. Snack trays that are removable should be manageable with one hand, and cushion seats should be machine wash safe. Also remember when choosing a high chair that the less decorations it has, the easier it is to clean, and the less things can fall from it that might result to a choking hazard.
Next concern is durability: sturdy high chairs not only support our concern for the baby`s safety, but it is also economic. Some high chairs can be later used as toddler booster seats, but the high chair itself has to be durable enough to last that long. High chairs with height adjustable bases can support a growing kid`s needs, but it should not only compensate for the height but also support the weight properly to avoid collapse.
Keep your baby entertained and safe with baby activity centers. They are similar to seats except they allow the baby to roam and have fun.
Folding high chairs are convenient if you are short in space but imposes certain dangers; certain high chair models were recalled because they collapse if not unfolded on full width. Check if the chair is stable and if the legs, the arms and the wheels, if it has them, lock in place properly. For safety precautions be sure that the model has not been recalled, or better yet, check if it has the approval seal of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA).
